Your brain is probably one of the most overused organs of your body. Over time, your mind can become overworked. The decline in brain performance cannot be avoided, with age and time. Although there is no cure for the reduction of your cognitive abilities, food and vitamins can support the health of your brain. Your diet affects your brain function, so it is essential to be mindful of what you take into your body.
Here are some power foods that you can much on to boost your memory and brainpower:
1. Oily or Fatty Fish
Fish is a rich source of Omega-3, an essential fatty acid that your body cannot produce. You can only get fatty acids through the food that you eat. Oily and fatty fish is one of the most effective sources of Omega-3. You can also get Omega-3 from soya beans, flaxseeds, walnuts, and pumpkin seeds.
Your choice of oily or fatty fish includes mackerel, salmon, trout, salmon, kippers, and herring. Vegetarians can opt for the seeds mentioned above, as well as plant-based Omega-3 supplements or pharmaceutical Omega-3 recommended by your physician.
You can get significant amounts of vitamin K from broccoli, which contains proteins that are important for your brain function. Vitamin K from broccoli helps reduce the risks of Alzheimer’s disease, as well as other forms of dementia. Broccoli is also an excellent source of protein and fiber, as well as potassium, selenium, and magnesium. It is also rich in B-vitamins such as folic acid.
Broccoli is best eaten boiled, steamed, or raw. This way, you preserve its antioxidant goodness and sulforaphane. Other vegetables that are good for the brain include kale, cabbage, and cauliflower.
3. Tea and Coffee
You did not imagine that surge of brainpower after you consume a cup of tea or coffee. The caffeine in both drinks was found to boost the retention of new memories, aside from improving your concentration. Both drinks also contain antioxidants. The benefits of tea and coffee to your brain include improved mood and alertness. Studies have also shown that drinking coffee can reduce your risks to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.
Not only are berries delicious, but they are also packed with nutrients that can help boost your memory retention. Flavanoids, the pigments that cause the berries’ colors, are known to help reduce memory decline. Berries are known to help improve the communications between your brain cells, increase brain plasticity, reduce inflammation, and reduce the risks of neurodegenerative diseases.
Berries are also rich in vitamin C and can help protect your cells from damage. They protect your body from free radicals, which can damage your cells and increase your risk of cancer. Add berries in your morning oatmeal for a rich and nutritious breakfast to start your day. You can choose from strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, mulberries, and blackcurrants.

It increases your dopamine and serotonin levels to help boost your mood and reduce your risk of falling into depression. It encourages brain cell growth, which can help stop the mental decline.

Sprinkle them on your oatmeal or snack on them in the middle of a busy workday. Walnuts can give you your daily dose of healthy fats and protein, including Alpha-Linolenic Acid (ALA), a type of Omega-3 fatty acid. If you want to improve your memory, walnuts can be your go-to afternoon snacks.
7. Dark Chocolate
Chocolate lovers have something to celebrate, too. Dark chocolate is rich in brain-boosting compounds, such as flavonoids and antioxidants. The flavonoids help in improving your memory and can help delay the mental decline that comes with old age. It can also help boost your mood, making you feel more positive. Now that is a legit excuse why you should not skimp on some guilt-free dark chocolate treats.
